The Paulownia of Bozhou has a long history. The major production area of Paulownia is located in Qiaocheng District and Yimen Town of Guoyang county. The soil here is mostly yellow sandy soil, which is good in air breathability and the water returns quickly. Local people call the soil as night damping sand. In the daytime, the surface soil is dried in the sun, and in the night the soil can regain moisture, which is very suitable for the growth of Paulownia.

Bozhou Paulownia is the best material for production of furniture, which is characterized by a bright and clean panel, solidness, lightness, resistance to deformation, damages by worms and bending. It is not only popular among Chinese consumers, but also favored by the international market. In recent years, it has been processed into panels and boards and exported to Japan and countries of Southeastern Asia. Another major characteristic of Bozhou Paulownia is that it grows fast. One seedling can grow into a useful timber in three or five years.

Nowadays, a network of forest occupying near 2 million mu has been created in the area of Qiaocheng District and Yimen Town of Woyang County in Bozhou, among which Paulownia accounts for above 2/3. In every spring, Paulownia trees are blossoming purple flowers, attracting a lot of tourists and wood merchants from different places.
