Traceability of TCM Pieces Ensures Public Confidence in Using TCM

Recently, Bozhou's TCM Pieces Information Traceability System was recognized by the Information Center of the National Medical Products Administration as one of the "2024 Smart Drug Regulation Exemplary Cases." It is also the only awarded case from Anhui Province.

Since the second half of 2020, Bozhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government have invested over 3 million yuan to establish the city's TCM Pieces Information Traceability System. This initiative aims to create a comprehensive governance framework for the quality and safety of TCM pieces, involving government oversight, industry self-regulation, corporate discipline, and public supervision, ultimately ensuring the safety of medicinal use for the public.

The Bozhou TCM Pieces Information Traceability System was completed by the end of 2020. It consists of two parts: the enterprise end and the regulatory end. During its construction, Bozhou adhered to the principles of "unified planning, design, development, usage, and management." The system's goal is to achieve "one product, one code; one code, traceable," by establishing an all-process, fully covered, and comprehensive traceability chain for TCM pieces. This allows for the traceability of product origins, tracking of distribution, quality control, and accountability.

Bozhou has also focused on formulating standardized guidelines for the digital traceability system of TCM pieces, striving to provide an "Anhui Model" that serves as a reference for the establishment, promotion, and replication of traceability systems and digital transformation across TCM production enterprises nationwide. The system has been in operation for over three years, with more than 200 participating enterprises, covering over 90% of local TCM companies in Bozhou, which account for 10% of the country's TCM Pieces enterprises. Currently, the system can trace nearly 1,000 varieties of TCM pieces, involving over 30,000 suppliers and customers. It has saved enterprises approximately 40 million yuan in traceability-related digital infrastructure costs and is projected to create thousands of new jobs, establishing itself as a leading force in Anhui Province's push for digital traceability in TCM pieces.
